Treatment For The Narrative of 'Do I Wanna Know'

We chose to follow a narrative structure for our music video as, according to Andrew Goodwin, "music vides are simply an extension of the lyrics", because of this we heavily based our music video around the basis of the lyrics.

"I dreamt about you nearly every night this week
How many secrets can you keep?
Cause there’s this tune I found that makes me think of you somehow
When I play it on repeat
Until I fall asleep
Spilling drinks on my settee"

These lyrics gave us the creative decision to base the narrative around a girl.
Because the lyrics suggest regret we tried to portray arguments between the two in flashbacks, making our music video have a multi-strand narrative.
Our plot is that the protagonist appears to be our main character Matt, who is trying to get over his ex-girlfriend Lydia, he does this by drinking a lot after entering multiple pubs, this is the opening of our music video. With a lot of focus on footsteps and disorderly drinking.
Throughout this sequence we include flashbacks of the arguments, showing Lydia crying and suggesting to the audience that it is Matt actually being the antagonist and ruining his relationship with Lydia.
However it can also be suggested that Lydia has committed to the wrong and that Matt is acting out and getting angry at Lydia for it.
This shows that the perception of the past is determined by the audience's own personal reading, this suggests Barthes' theory that in every text there is more than reading due to their context (polysemic texts).

( Do I wanna Know )
If this feeling floats both ways
( Sad to see you go )
Cause I’ve been hoping that you’d stay
( And now that we both know )
That the nights were mainly made the same
And things that you can’t say some other day

This is the chorus of the song, basing the main outline of our plot.
When reading this we thought it would be good to have Matt wanting Lydia back.
Later after the boys are stumbling about in the street they enter a party, everybody at the party appears to be having a good time apart from Matt.
We use close ups of his expression and his phone to present this.

Later in the party we see that Lydia is at the party and this is represented by having Matt in the background and Lydia in the foreground flirting with another boy.
Matt and Lydia argue after more flirting between Lydia and the other boy.

Do I wanna know
Too busy being yours to fall
Sad to see you go
Ever thought of calling...
Do I wanna know
Do you want me crawling back to you

The last verse is almost like a goodbye and that he has lost the girl.
Showing he now regrets the breakup, because of this we decided the last shot to be of Lydia walking away from the party with the other boy whilst Matt watches them walk away.
