Suck it and See - Music Video

This video is a structure of an abusive relationship and it is the first part of a series of music videos that carry on from one another off of the Suck it and See album. Here, we are introduced to Matt Helders (drummer from the arctic monkeys) he appears to be a biker in America on the run.
This music video is very effective for promoting the album as it features the words "Suck it and See" multiple times throughout the clip, it also refers to other songs off of the album

  • The first shot introduces you to the character of Matt Helders (the drummer of the Arctic Monkeys

  • It is already playing up to the typical stereotype of showing the band members in the music video, as it is quite rare when you do not see the artists of the video.

  • This is an effect created with the camera which is interesting as the human eye also can make these lights which gives the effect that this is your eyesight or in the eyes of the character.

  • This is a close up of he main character of the music video, the video as a whole tells a story and this is introducing the audience to the character.
  • The American flag in the background is ymbolic as it gives us an indication of where the music video is set.

  • This shows the freedom of the character presented to us, he seems not threatened and not scared.
  • We see the "biker scene" in this video which is most commonly known in America complimenting the American flag in the last shot.
  • Here we see a relationship between the main character and a girl, this compliments the lyrics within the song "Suck it and See" this suggests that the song is about this girl.
  • This follows on from the last shot and shows the couple again in a mid shot.
  • They use cross cutting between shots as it goes from one scene to another.
  • This shot shows the title of the album and the single playing "Suck it and See".
  • This is also the EP single cover for the rack, this shows that the image has been taken directly from the video showing a clear link between the music video and single

  • They have used a close up on the lighter to show the title again in this shot, this is promoting the entire album as well as just the single.
  • This EP came out before the album so it was a great advertising stunt to gain attraction to the album.

    • This shot of the girl and the gun is interesting as the background has a beige/cream look which could resemble the cover of the digipak for "Suck it and See"
    • This shot is very eye catching because of the gun in the foreground and in more focus then the rest of the scene.
    • The composition is good as the girl is in the centre, drawing us (the audience) to her.

    • This is a very passionate shot which we do not see a lot of throughout the rest of the music video
    • It also contrast to the lack of passion from the digipak

    • The last shot is a medium cllose up of the two characters holding hands showing some compassion in the otherwise abusive relationship.
    • Again the video promotes the album with having "Suck it and See" on the back of the denim jacket.
